In 1989, at 29 years young, I began my journey with FEMA. I was a husband, father, and former bartender. I was chasing my passion for extreme weather, history, and emergency medicine.

My first major test? Hurricane Hugo's rampage, a disaster so severe it changed how we name storms. This baptism by fire marked the start of my 30-year journey in crisis management, where I learned that leadership is key in any crisis. It's about building teams, partnerships, and resilience - reducing suffering, speeding up recovery, and strengthening communities.

Now, I live to pass on these stories and lessons, to forge resilient leaders and communities together.
